After winning the competition to design a new building for The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at City College New York, Rafael Vinoly Architects PC opted to repurpose a neglected and underused facility on campus. An atrium was cut through the center of the four story building with diagonal bridges connecting floors. At the main level of the atrium is the student exhibit center where student’s work is mounted for design crits, displays and art exhibits. To accommodate a flexible partition wall system the lighting designers, Ann Kale Associates, designed concentric squares of track. LSI track is mounted to Unistrut to allow for minimal pendants that hang from the diagonal bridges above.
